Emmanuel
I am a PhD Candidate in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Science Education at Indiana University Bloomington. My research examines technology integration in elementary science teaching, with particular attention to pre-service teachers’ beliefs, self-efficacy, and pedagogical decision-making around the use of technology for science teaching. Through this work, I investigate how generational technological change is shaping the current cohort of pre-service teachers and how their technological dispositions influence the ways they conceptualize and enact technology for inquiry-based science instruction. Specifically, my research explores how pre-service elementary teachers value and navigate tensions around the integration of educational technologies in science instruction, including factors that shape avoidance, adoption, and instructional use. My scholarship aims to better understand why Generation Z pre-service teachers, despite high fluency in personal and entertainment-focused technologies, demonstrate more limited engagement with science-specific technologies for inquiry-based instruction, and how teacher educators might better support meaningful technology integration that advances science learning.
